Welcome to the Seniors Section at Blackwell Grange Golf Club
Welcome to the Seniors Section of Blackwell Grange Golf Club – a thriving, friendly, and well-organised group that offers a fantastic golfing experience for gentlemen aged 55 and over. Established in 1984, the Seniors Section has grown from just 24 members to an impressive 200+ members, making it one of the most popular seniors groups in the region.
Who Can Join?
Membership is open to all gentlemen aged 55 and over who are members of Blackwell Grange Golf Club. With its welcoming atmosphere and a full calendar of events, the Seniors Section provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy great golf and good company.
Seniors Competitions
The Seniors Section runs a wide variety of competitions throughout the year, offering something for golfers of all abilities:

Medal & Stableford Qualifiers: Five Medal and five Stableford qualifiers are held during the season, usually on Thursday mornings. Players compete in three handicap divisions:
- Gold: Handicap 0 – 14
- Silver: Handicap 15 – 19
- Bronze: Handicap 20 – 54
Top players in each division qualify for the finals in September, with prizes for winners, runners-up, and third place.

- Additional fun and challenging formats

Winter League: A pairs competition held on Thursday mornings during the off-season, featuring 19 matches in a variety of formats.
Captain’s Events
The Seniors Captain organises several highlight events throughout the year:
- Captain’s Challenge: Kicks off the season in March.
- Captain’s Scramble and Dinner: Held in June, this is the Seniors Captain’s Day.
- Captain’s Away Day: A popular event in August.
Friendly Matches
The Seniors Section participates in home and away matches with other clubs on Tuesday mornings, fostering friendly competition. Clubs involved include: Barnard Castle, Bedale, Bishop Auckland, Cleveland, Durham City, Eaglescliffe, Masham, Ramside, Romanby, Teesside, Thirsk & Northallerton, and Woodham.
Additionally, the Seniors Section enjoys:
- Matches against the Ladies Section in April and September.
- Representation in the Teesside Union Seniors League – 1st Division, showcasing top-level competitive golf.
Seniors Opens
Blackwell Grange hosts Seniors Team and Pairs Opens throughout the year. These events are a great opportunity to compete against players from other clubs in a friendly yet competitive environment. For dates and booking, visit the Open Dates section of our website.
