Name of Team: Seniors' Teesside Union
Team Manager: David Heaton
The club first entered a team in the Teesside Union Seniors' league in 2015. In our first season we were runners up in the 2nd Division and were promoted to the 1st. The following season we were 3rd in the 1st Division, one point behind the runners up.
In 2017 there will be 6 teams in the 1st Division and we will play the other 5 on a home and away basis, giving 10 fixtures in total. There are 6 pairs in the team and matches are played on a better ball basis, with shots taken against the lowest handicap player (on a 90% basis). Each match is played to the 18th hole, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a halved match. The team which has the most holes up is awarded a bonus point if they were playing at home and 2 bonus points if playing away. These matches are competitive and this reflects the selection criteria. Although they are played in a friendly, civilised manner, the intention is to win and achieve a high league position. Most players tend to have lower handicaps and it is generally expected that team members will be playing off a handicap below 20. To be eligible you must be aged 55 or over; you do not have to be a member of the seniors' section.
An availability notice will be posted on the seniors' notice board before the start of the season. If you are interested in playing, please sign the notice or contact the team manager. If you enjoy competitive golf and have a strong will to win, we would be pleased to hear from you!
Matches are played on Mondays in May, June and July. Home matches tee off at 1.00 pm although we always meet at midday for a bacon butty. The start time for away matches is variable, depending on the opposition. The cost is £3 per match, home or away.
