Things get underway in fairly tricky style with a testing stroke index 8 par 4 (par 5 from red tees) that comes in at 370 yards off yellow. The hole is defined by the trees that close in on the fairway. Some accurate hitting is required if you are to get off to a decent start.

The 2nd is a long par 4 (442 yards off yellow) with a stroke index of 2. This is a difficult hole despite being downhill, the river runs along the right-hand side for the final 100 yards or so, with the green just nestling invitingly in the river's loop.

The 3rd is a short uphill dog-leg, par 4 (294 yards off yellow), with the river running all the way along its length, beware of out of bounds down the right!

The 4th, a short but tricky 109-yard hole off yellow tees tests the nerves, as the tee shot must carry the bend of the river and a large bank of trees. An excellent little hole.

The 5th is another par 4 (362 yards off the yellow tee) and is fairly straightforward if you can get a good drive away and avoid the trees and strategically-placed bunker.

While the 6th (354 yards par 4 off yellow tees) is a virtual carbon copy.
Hole 7
447 yards, Par 4

The 7th is one of the toughest holes on the course - that's because it's a 440-yard par 4 off yellow (par 5 off the red tees) the fairway bends to the right to bring a fairway bunker into play, it should be navigable without penalty if you can produce a couple of clean strikes.

The par 4, 312-yard (from yellow tees) 8th is another hole that has a well-placed bunker and bank of trees waiting for any drive that is just off centre. There's a dog-leg left but even short drives can be redeemed here, though there are two large bunkers in front of the green.

The front nine concludes with a nice par 3, which was remodelled in 2019. At 197 yards off yellow, the line into the green from the tee has to be carefully judged, with the green well guarded by bunkers.

The course's first par 5 at the 10th (520 yards off yellow). This is rated as index 7 on the course but is well manageable for the longer hitters, as it's straight and relatively trouble-free, .
Hole 11
202 yards, Par 3

The 11th is a tough par 3 of 184 yards off yellow. There's a red penalty area up the right hand side bordering a pond, while the tricky green is surrounded by bunkers remodelled in 2019.

The 12th hole (343 yards par 4 from yellow tees) requires a good drive through a narrow part of the course that combines the well-matured landscape with some tricky bunkers.
Hole 13
169 yards, Par 3

The 13th is another well thought-out par 3, this time of 159 yards off yellow. There's a narrow entrance to the green through a ring of trees while there are bunkers waiting just beyond the branches.
Hole 14
504 yards, Par 5
The 14th is a 486-yard par 5 from yellow tees (that seems longer) with the fairway again being tight and bordered by trees. There's a bunker deceptively placed centre fairway, before the green - beware there's another 50 yards to go!

A 379-yard par 4 from yellow tees is one of the most interesting holes on the course. The fairway is very narrow with the now familiar tree and bunker combination waiting to snare anything loose or even slightly off line. There's a road and hedge all the way up the left until the hole turns dramatically left at around the 230-yard mark. Any drive short of this point is going to make the second shot incredibly tricky to reach the green.

The 16th is another par 5 (468 yards off yellow). You need another nice straight drive here over the bunker to prevent being drawn to the right avoiding the trees, but otherwise the hole is a reasonable par 5 test.
Hole 17
430 yards, Par 4

The 17th is a 425-yard par 4 (from yellow tees) that has an abundance of trees up the left, a couple of bunkers in the middle of the fairway within driving distance and a well-guarded green.
Hole 18
433 yards, Par 4

Another long par 4 to finish at 429 yards from yellow tees, which again features all of Blackwell Grange's trademark characteristics - trees, more trees, well-placed sand, nice rolling fairways and inviting greens.
